Hot Seating

Garland Primary School, West Berkshire, Year 3

Garland Primary School Example

Here pupils are using 'hot seating' to learn about the figures in the painting. Year 3 pupils took it in turns to play the role of a different character from the Dora Holzhandler painting. Pupils on the carpet were then invited to ask questions about the life of the character and the questions were answered by the child in 'the hotseat'. Pupils were given the starting point of…'one snowy night, four people went for a walk to the statue. They had fun on the way….' And were then encouraged to imagine what happened next. Pupils also recreated the painting, using costume and drama.
